“It’s Your Day” Mixed Media Card with Watercolour Butterfly

Hello Little Birdie Crafts fans!!

It’s Tracey here to share a shabby mixed media card with you today.  For this sweet card I had the chance to try out the fabulous Little Birdie Crafts 100% Cotton Watercolour Paper with a beautiful stamped and hand colored butterfly. I just have to say that this watercolour paper is a dream to work with. The paints moved and blended so beautifully on this fabulous paper.

There is also a gorgeous floral cluster featuring beautiful Little Birdie Crafts Flowers from the Fairy Sparkle Collection and fabulous Primed Chipboard. There’s lots of mixed media goodness on this card, so be sure to scroll down through the tutorial to see how I put it all together.

Tutorial:

Step 1

Select one of the gorgeous papers from the 6×6″ Fairy Sparkle Paper pack. Brush with clear gesso to prepare for wet mixed media products.

Step 2

Use the ‘Floral Mellow’ stamp with permanent plum ink randomly onto the open purple areas of the base paper to add visual texture. You can see the background stamping on this close-up photo.

Step 3

Once the stamped design is completely dry, apply Mixed Media Paste across the background using the ‘Script’ stencil. Again you can see the textured stenciling on the close-up butterfly photo above.

Step 4

Fussy cut beautiful butterflies from the element sheet included in the 12×12″ Fairy Sparkle Paper Pack.

Step 5

This was my first time using the Little Birdie Watercolour Paper. I was so pleased with the way the watercolor paint moved on this fabulous cotton, cold pressed paper.

I have this stamp/die set that is a nice size for a card. Any type of stamp that fits your style would work. If you don’t have a coordinating die, you can fussy cut the image. I stamped the image with permanent black ink and set aside to dry completely.

*** Note *** As you will find with all cold pressed watercolor paper, the surface is textured, so I used a stamp platform to stamp precisely several times to get a clearly stamped image.

Color with watercolor paints in colors that coordinate with the base paper design.

Step 6

I selected the middle size from the ‘Wired Circles’ Primed Chipboard set and cut off a section from the Cog set, then heat embossed with shabby white embossing enamel that is a mixture of white and gold embossing powder with gold glitter. A quick and easy way to add a shabby chic look to the chipboard.

Step 7

I selected 3 small metal gears from a package of jewelry charms. Since they were silver, I brushed them with Rich Gold Metallic Wax. Isn’t the transformation wonderful? The fabulous Little Birdie waxes are a great way to alter embellishments to coordinate with your project and to highlight textures.

Step 8

Die cut a lace piece from white Premium Card Stock. You could also use a length of fabric lace.

Color the lace with several shades of brown ink for a vintage feel. You can see the colored lace in the next photo under step 9.

Step 9

Stamp a sentiment onto Premium White Cardstock with permanent ink and cut out the strip. When the ink is dry rub with brown and purple inks to color.

Step 10

Use Silicone Glue to adhere gorgeous Little Birdie Flowers along with the other elements you’ve prepared. I’ve used the following flowers from the Fairy Sparkle Collection: Heleen and Calypso. The watercolor butterfly is adhered with foam tape for added dimension.

Step 11

Dry brush the flowers and leaves with white gesso. I dip a small dry fan brush into white gesso, and brush most of it off onto my craft mat, then lightly brush over the flowers to soften the color and highlight texture.

Step 12

Spatter with white gesso thinned with water. An old toothbrush will give a super fine spatter.

Step 13

Adhere Muted Orchid Metal Microbeads and maize colored prills with Soft Matte Gel.

Step 14

Cut a piece of Premium Cardstock to 6″ by 12″. Score at 6″ then fold to create a 6×6 card base. Adhere the card to the base with silicone glue and double sided tape.

Amber Candle Holder

Welcome!!!

Wioletta here! Today I would like to show how a decorative candle stick can be easily made from a tall stem glass.

I used flowers and poured beach awash amber collected near the sea.

I invite you to see the step by step tutorial.

To make a candle stand we have to use a tall stem glass.

I wrapped it with a jute ribbon.

Next, I added sisal fiber on the entire jute and the stem of the glass to give it a  decorative look. I stuck  burlap flowers of my choice and poured amber and some pebbles.

Details of the work.

Art Journal Pages with Stencils

Hi everyone,

Saadia here, with two quick and easy journal pages. I hope you like them.

Both of them use the same techniques and stencil.

I made these pages in Little Birdie Crafts 100 percent cotton paper journal. The pages are very thick and are great for watercolor and mixed media techniques.

I applied a layer of Little Birdie soft gloss gel through the ‘Script’ stencil to get a resist effect. The gloss gel resists ink sprays and watercolors, anything under the gel remains the same. My stencil already had some orange ink on it from a previous project, so the gel medium got that light orange tint. It looked alright at the end.

Then, I applied Color Splash sprays (Lemon Zing and Hot Pink).  For the second page, I applied Hot pink, Grape Soda and Ocean Mist Color Splash sprays.

Next, I applied black acrylic paint through a ‘Butterfly’ stencil. I used makeup sponge for applying the paint. For the second page, I applied white acrylic paint through the same butterfly stencil.

The next step was a little bit of doodling and journaling with markers and a white pen.

Finished the pages by adding few paint splatters and a quote.

That’s all for now.

Thank you for your precious time.

Take care and keep crafting,

Saadia Nawaz.
