Birds and Berries Mixed Media Canvas with Video Tutorial

Hello dear Little Birdie fans! It’s Tracey back to share a romantic mixed media canvas featuring the gorgeous ‘Birds and Berries’ Collection along with a video tutorial sharing all the details on how I put this together. This is my first ever video tutorial with voice. I would adore hearing what you think and how you like it.

In this DIY Mixed Media Canvas Tutorial Learn how to:
~ Adhere base paper to the canvas
~ Sand to distress edges
~ Add texture by stenciling with Grainy Texture Paste
~ Add color and texture to chipboard
~ Paint resin pieces
~ Use art wax to highlight texture
~ Dry brush with white gesso to highlight texture and soften colors
~ Add texture with Craft Pellets and Metal Microbeads
~ Add depth with Color Splash

Tips and Techniques:

I’ve used gorgeous Little Birdie flowers, chipboard, Craft Pellets, and Metallic Microbeads to create this beautiful floral cluster.

I created a grungy finish on these chipboard bird cages with Crackle Paste, and Tinted Metallic Paints. The berries are fussy cut from the Birds and Berries paper set.

More Crackled chipboard goodness. Of course I had to add a bit of bling using rhinestones for the “berries.”

Aren’t these wings beautiful? Underneath them you can see lace peeking through. It was layered over the base paper with soft gel medium.

I mixed Craft Pellents and Metal Microbeads into Soft Gel Medium to spread around the cluster for added texture. Color Splash is used to add depth around the cluster and chipboard pieces.

This sweet dragonfly was cast with resin then painted with Tinted Metallic paints and rubbed with gold Metallic Wax.

Mixed Media Painting, “White Horse “

Hi Little Birdie Fans,

Today, I am sharing a Mixed Media Painting, “White Horse” for which I used a variety of pastes and primer from the Little Birdie.

Why did I take the theme of “White Horse”? Because this occasion is in conjunction with the birthday of my boss in the office. He really likes paintings of horses.

The artwork is something that I already I gave as a birthday gift.

I used Little Birdie supplies :

Gell Medium

White Gesso

Black Gesso

Fiber Paste

Crackle Paste

Mixed Media 2 in1 paste, Slate

Thanks for stopping by and taking out time to view tutorials & video.

I hope you’ve been inspired to pull out your Little Birdie Crafts supplies and Create Something Today!

Thank You

Magic Explosion Box

Hi friends,

I am with you again wishing the best of health for all.

Hope you all are doing fine and taking all the precautions advised in these times of global crisis. At this time, let us all keep a positive mindset and focus on all good things in our lives.

I tried something which is sure to uplift your mood and gives a happy and a warm feeling. It is a magic explosion box created with Little Birdie ‘Shabby Chic Boutique’ paper pack. I am sharing the detailed tutorial so it is a bit long. I tried to include many elements in this project.

Magic Explosion Box

here is a short video of the opening of the box :

Step by step:

Step 1: The recently launched Shabby Chic Boutique paper pack by Little Birdie Crafts is so awesome that I fell for them the moment I received them. I wanted to showcase this amazing pack in the best possible way and sincerely hope you enjoy my take on them. I created a magic explosion box with flying butterflies which I fussy cut from ‘Boho Dreams’ paper pack .

Template to box, lid, and acetate strips

I had some plain 250 gsm cardstock which I used for the base. You can use any of the papers also from the pack as they are all 250gsm and are quite sturdy.

Step 2: Now it was time to add the papers. I decided on two layers for the inside, outside, and lid of the box. I just made the layers a bit smaller (by 2/8th inch). I used all sheets from the 12×12 inch paper pack.

Outside of box with two layers of coordinating papers
Inside of the box
Inside of the box with third layer of doily elements

I then decided to add the same elements as pop up elements, so I fussy cut the elements from the 6×6 inch paper pack.

Fussy cut and distressed the edges

I then took the acetate sheet strips and attached them to the sides of the inside panels of the box.

Used sparkle paste to give some glitter to the elements

Step 3: Further, I constructed the lid. It was super easy to assemble the flowers as they come in ready bunches to use.

Step 4: Now was the time to think about the flying elements and I chose the butterflies from another beautiful paper pack, ‘Boho Dreams’. I fussy cut these and added orange sparkle on the orange butterflies and also dry embossed them for some dimension.

Step 5: I also worked on the base which was to hold the acetate sheets. I made four diagonal cuts and four in the centre of each side to insert my acetate strips. Also note the strips are in Z shape with one flap going inside. I used Silicone glue to adhere the strips and the butterflies.

Step 6: To create a tiered cake like structure, I used some thermocol leftovers from the satin ribbon rolls. I embellished the same with the gorgeous papers and some matching flowers.

The Final look : Magic Explosion Box

The ready box size is 4×4 inch and is easily created with 12×12 inch papers.
