Layered Shabby Mixed Media Mother’s Day Card

Hello dear Little Birdie Crafts fans! It’s Tracey here with a new project to inspire you. Mother’s Day is this Sunday, so I created a sweet card for my mom featuring the beautiful Shabby Chic Bouquet and Woodland Stories collections paired with gorgeous Celebrate Life flowers. This lovely card could be used to celebrate any special woman in your life with this sweet sentiment that says, “You are Beautiful in every way.” I wrote a personal note to my mom on the inside.

I’ve created a full project video with voice instructions including how to:

Alter gorgeous flowers with paint & texture
Highlight texture on this fabulous butterfly with paint and wax
Transform seam binding into a girlie grunge bow using paint & gesso
Create gorgeous gems with pearl drops

Tips and Techniques:

I adore Little Birdie flowers right out of the package, but decided to go for a more shabby look with gesso and paint, then dabbed on Golden Glaze Metallic Paint for a golden glow, then adhered microbeads and glitter with Soft Gel Medium.

The texture on this detailed butterfly is beautifully highlighted with Little Birdie Golden Glaze paint and Rich Gold Wax.

White rayon seam binding is colored with paint and tied into a double bow. The texture is accented with white gesso and more gold metallic paint.

These gorgeous translucent gems are created with Little Birdie Candy Glaze Pearl Drops and this enameled gear is cut with the Cogs and Wheels Thincut Die set. I’ve tucked in some fussy cut leaves from the Shabby Chic Bouquet image sheet.

This sweet sentiment card is also cut from the Shabby Chic Bouquet collection. These layered papers also include designs from the Woodland Stories collection. The edges are distressed, then inked for definition.
