‘Shine’ Layered Shabby Card

Hello dear Little Birdie Crafts fans! It’s Tracey here to share a layered shabby card featuring the gorgeous ‘Shabby Chic Bouquet’ paper collection and shabby chic flowers. Summer is coming to a close, so I thought I’d share one more summery project with beautiful flowers, lace, and lots of layers.

I’ve created a photo tutorial to share all the details of how I put this card together. Enjoy!

Photo Tutorial:

Step 1:

Cut a 5″x7″ base from white cardstock. From the gorgeous ‘Shabby Chic Bouquet’ collection cut a 4 3/4 x 6 3/4 piece from the dotted paper and the 4 1/2 by 5 1/2″ focal piece from the lace and floral patterned paper. Adhere them together so that the dotted and white papers frame the floral patterned paper.

I cut a piece of lace from my stash and adhered it to the left side leaving the ends frayed and shabby.

Step 2:

Pop out this doily shape and fussy cut this card from the 12″x12″ inch paper set. These will be used for layering.

Step 3:

Select pieces from the ‘Shabby Chic Bouquet’ ephemera pack for more layers.

Step 4:

Die cut a small doily from white cardstock, and leafy flourishes from watercolour paper. The doily will remain white, but the flourishes will be watercolored, so using watercolour paper for them will work best.

Step 5:

I wanted some ephemera pieces to add to the layers, so stamped these vintage images and cut them out.

Tip: When stamping the circle pieces I used blue distress Ink, which is water reactive. I spritzed them with water to give them more of a vintage distressed feel, then blotted with a paper towel. I accidentally “re-stamped” a portion of the circle back onto the image. I just adore the look and repeated it on the other round piece as well.

Step 6:

I used permanent black ink to stamp out this butterfly image from my stash and colored it with watercolor brush markers to coordinate with the other elements.

Step 7:

Select amazing Little Birdie flowers and foliage to use in the floral cluster. I’ve used the following flowers from the Shabby Chic collection: Bonita; Eva; Izabela; Micro Roses; Julita; along with: Song of the Sea Bouquet Flowers; Arctic Ice Micro Jewelled Florettes; Blue Camila Flowers; and Ocean Mist Serenade Flowers.

Step 8:

Use color mists to color the leafy flourishes and a length of rayon seam binding. I kept the seam binding scrunched up as it dried to achieve the crinkled effect.

Step 9:

Tie the ribbon into a double loop bow. It doesn’t matter if the ends are even since they will be mostly tucked into the layers.

Step 10:

Dry brush the foliage and larger blue flower with white gesso.

Step 11:

Adhere the gorgeous layers and floral cluster in place with silicone glue.

Step 12:

Mix Little Birdie Iced Slate Metal Microbeads into Matte Gel Medium to brush randomly across the larger flowers.
