Cherry Blossom Altered Box

Hello creative friends !
Eva here! Today we will be altering this easy and super cute box using my favourite collection Poppy’s & Roses. To start, you will need these alterable boxes. I have used the 4” size ones.

Start by priming the box using white Little Birdie gesso using a brush.

Since the Poppy’s and Roses pack comes with a coordinating decoupage sheet, I adhered them to the cover of my box using the Little Birdie Deco Magic glue and left them to dry naturally. I did the glossy finish for my cover.

Now comes my favourite part – Stencils. I used this geometric stencil and created textures on my box base using the Little Birdie 2 in 1 Mixed Media Paste. Gave it a red coat using acrylic paints but You can also go for the matte finished look using chalk paints.

Then to add more dimension and depth on the cover, I cut assorted sizes of rectangles using the Poppy’s and Roses paperpack and then started layering them.

To give the box more definition I used a lot of stone pellets, beads, flowers and other embellishments.

Here’s a close up of the different details of the box. Hope You enjoy creating these cute altered boxes.

3-D Layered Butterfly Wall Hanging

Hello dear Little Birdie Crafts fans! It’s Tracey here to share a new project. I don’t know about you, but I’m eager for spring which is just around the corner. Today I’m sharing a home decor piece that embodies a warm spring day. This 3-D layered butterfly wall hanging features Little Birdie Decoupage Paper, gorgeous Song of the Sea flowers, and Primed Chipboard pieces. Be sure to check out the photos below to see just how much dimension a side view shows you with all these layers.

In this DIY video tutorial you will learn how to use layers to develop dimension, create gorgeous faux metal gears with patina using chipboard, gilding flakes, and waxes, learn all the details to make this gorgeous 3-D layered butterfly, create a patina effect on flowers and feathers, and use items from nature to enhance your mixed media projects.

Tips and Techniques:

This 3-D layered butterfly cut from Fairy Sparkle paper sits atop gorgeous Song of the Sea flowers brushed with Tinted Metallic paint for a patina effect. All these layers develop amazing depth and dimension.
Texture Tack is the perfect adhesive to apply copper and gold gilding flakes to these chipboard gears to create a faux metal effect. Aqua Sheen Metallic Wax and Caribbean Teal paint create a warm patina finish. Microbeads and colored craft pellets applied with soft gel medium create gorgeous color coordinated texture around the edges of the floral cluster.
Another faux metal gear.
These darling feathers are cut from the Dream Catcher Chipboard set and painted with Caribbean Teal and Tawny Glint Metallic paints for a shimmering finish. A patina effect is added to the flowers by dry brushing with white gesso, then again with Tawny Glint paint.
Three butterflies are cut from gorgeous Fairy Sparkle paper to create this layered butterfly. The top layer is brushed along the outer edges and randomly across the wings with Glazed Berries Metallic Paint which was sprinkled with shimmering Fairy Dust Glitter. I realized a a coat of gel medium would be needed to hold the glitter in place. The butterfly body and trail are metal pieces from my stash with gilding and patina like the gears.
This Thriving Thistle Chipboard is brushed with Glazed Berries paint, then highlighted by rubbing with Copper Blaze Metallic Wax. I tucked in a piece of birch bark for a natural element. I just adore the text on the Touch of Nature Decoupage Paper.
I took a walk in my winter garden to find these dried flower stems to add a linear element to this piece.
Barley Crunch – Stone Texture Paste applied through the Brick Wall Stencil adds fabulous texture to the background. I tucked in several natural feathers for a soft touch.

Shabby Girl’s Birthday Card

Hello dear Little Birdie fans!

It’s Tracey here to share my first project in 2021. Our sweet little granddaughter is turning 4 next month, so I created this shabby mixed media card for her featuring the Celebrate Life collection. These images are ideal to celebrate with the banner and cupcake designs, and isn’t the Ornate Number 4 chipboard piece simply perfect for this card? I have a DIY video tutorial to share showing my entire creative process.

In this DIY mixed media card tutorial learn how to:
~ Dry brush background and flowers with white gesso
~ Color chipboard with metallic paint
~ Learn my creative process for arranging embellishments
~ Alter a metal jewelry piece with gesso and paint
~ Add texture with craft pellets and metal microbeads

Tips and Techniques

I used the following gorgeous Little Birdie Flowers for this sweet floral cluster: Celebrate Life: Gianna; Kimberley; Wendy; Marisa; Sparkle Florettes; Shabby Chic: Queenie; Micro Roses; Agnes.

The flowers have been dry brushed with white gesso before adhering.

This Ornate Number 4 is so perfect for a girl’s birthday card! It is painted with Little Birdie Shimmer Sherbet Tinted Metallic Paint.

This little bee charm and bow winding around the cluster add a bit of whimsy.

I’ve tucked in several images from the Celebrate Life Ephemera Pack. Isn’t the glitter gorgeous, and what little girl wouldn’t adore a cupcake on her birthday card?

Here’s a view of the sentiment stamped on vellum and the top of the cluster with these amazing flowers. You can see the dry brushing on the background and flowers here.

I adore the texture achieved by adding bits around the edges of the flowers. Here I have pearls, micro beads, and craft pellets. the white charm is a jewelry piece from my stash that I altered with gesso and a touch of Shimmery Sherbet paint.
