“Tell the Story” Floral Camera Card

Hello dear Little Birdie fans!! It’s Tracey here to share a sweet new card with you.

Do you have someone special in your life who exudes creativity? This is just the card to celebrate that artistry. I just adore the camera images included in the fabulous Little Birdie Celebrate Life collection and feature one in this beautiful card.

I’ve layered the ephemera and flowers over the chipboard feather to build dimension. Be sure to scroll down through my ‘Tips and Techniques’ section below to discover all the details on how to create a card like this for that special creative person in your life.

Tips and Techniques

Step 1

Trim this piece of patterned paper from the gorgeous Celebrate Life 12×12″ Paper Pack to 4 3/4 by 7 3/4″ and cut a piece of cream cardstock to 5×7″.

Step 2

Brush the focal paper with a couple coats of clear gesso to help reduce warping on the paper. I like to brush one coat across the front, dry, then another on the back and dry. Then one more time across the front. No, the gesso on the back doesn’t provide a barrier to the wet mediums, but I’ve found that it does help keep the paper from curling when you apply gesso only on the front.

Once the gesso is dry to the touch, apply Mixed Media Paste through this Little Birdie Script Stencil. Set aside to dry.

Step 3

Apply luscious Little Birdie Metallic waxes around the edges of the paper. First I applied the gold, and then the Berry. I used my finger to rub on the waxes, but you could also use a soft but firm brush to apply the wax. The color ebbs and flows around the edges for an organic feel.

Once the wax was applied, I distressed the edges of the paper with the blade of these scissors, then went back and applied more wax to the distressed edges.

Step 4

Select gorgeous glittered pieces from the Celebrate Life Ephemera pack. I just adore that these beautiful embellishments are precut, glittered, and ready to go for my projects!

Step 5

Select a piece of Little Birdie Chipboard to add to the center cluster. I’ve chosen this beautiful feather which comes two to a pack. This is such a beautiful and intricate piece!

Step 6

Select gorgeous handmade Little Birdie Flowers to embellish the card. A list of flowers used can be found in the supplies list below.

***Tip*** For my selection process, I arrange the flowers, ephemera, and chipboard on the card to see what will work well together.

Step 7

Lightly dry brush the flowers and chipboard with white gesso. I like to use a small fan brush for this. I’ve also added in a small wooden camera and feather from my stash that work nicely with the other elements on this card. This softens the flowers for a grungy shabby chic feel and brightens the chipboard and wood pieces so that they are more visible.

Step 8

Adhere the focal paper to the cream paper, then arrange and adhere the flowers, ephemera, chipboard and wood pieces. Use foam tape to pop elements up as you’re layering the ephemera pieces to help build dimension.

***Tip*** I like to make adjustments as I work and may move things around a bit to get just the right placement. So when using foam tape, I apply it directly to the back of the ephemera, then when I remove the liner paper, I apply silicone glue which not only gives it better sticking power, but also allows me to move things around a little as I’m working.
