Sympathy box

Hello to all of our Little Birdie Crafts friends around the world,

I’m back again to share a little creativity with you all – this time I am sharing my sympathy box.

I don’t think the exploding box craze will ever slow down and I for one will keep on making them periodically.  Each and every one of them can look so completely different depending on the theme.

Let me share.

The bottom half of my sympathy box started life as a piece of white cardstock 12″x12″.  Each external panel is 4″ square.

I don’t cut the inside corner panels away, I leave them intact and cut from corner to corner and in-fold them.

I think it makes the box a lot more sturdier.

Every piece of patterned paper of the external panels is 3 and 3/4″ square.

My flowers on the top of my sympathy box started life as buttermilk flowers.

They are a pretty flower just the way they are – but I wanted an orangey colour flower.

Take buttermilk flowers, a couple of sprays of Gold rush color splash and you have a gorgeous orange colour flower.

Each panel within the box itself is white and is 4″ x 4″.

I have then cut a salmon/apricot coloured square, 3 and 3/4″ square, another white cardstock square 3 and a 1/2″ square, a strip of patterned paper 3/4″ by 3 and 3/4″, a doily and a paper circle.

I’ve added cut out foliage using the same patterned paper and cardstock to build up my embellishment cluster, adhered a little muslin [cheesecloth], a bauble, some wire spirals, a gorgeous Little Birdie Crafts bloom and a pearl or two, plus a piece of my sympathy message which I have typed up and printed.

And of course, I have randomly applied a little gesso.

Each section is put together the same way.

I have alternated the colour of the bloom on each section.

In the middle section [or the bottom section] I have cut a long piece of white cardstock and concertina folded it – adhered a doily and tied it together and adhered it to the bottom.

The recipient can open and either write messages or memories and adhere small photos – something for them to keep their special cherished memories.

My special sympathy box.

“Live Laugh Love”

Hi there Creatives!

I love the “Texture Brew” paper collection from Little Birdie. It is so versatile, it can form the basis of any layout. Perfect for these black and white photographs of my daughter!

Live, Laugh, Love

Lets start

Little Birdie Products

Step 1

For the background I used a grey colored woodgrain paper from the Texture Brew Collection as frame and a newsprint paper as background. I layered a few pieces of torn woodgrain and other paper and dry brushed with Little Birdie White Gesso. Then I splattered with Berry Blast Color Splash, Black Gesso and White Gesso and stenciled with the “spotty Stencil and distress Ink.

Step 2

Although the Little Birdie Chipboards are primed already, I painted the “Enchanted Scroll”  and “Live, Laugh Love” Word Chipboard with White and Black Gesso .

Step 3

As contrast I also painted some of the red flowers with Black gesso. The photographs were raised and layered over Little Birdie cheesecloth, with the chipboard scrolls and flowers tucked in behind them.

Step 4

Finally I added the title words. To finish the layout off I added a few Rub-on arrows and a photo tag.

I hope this leaves you inspired to create something beautiful!

I used the following Little Birdie supplies for this single page layout:
