Hi Everyone Kerrie here! I am back today with a fun, quick tutorial for you using Little Birdie Crafts fabulous products. I absolutely love that everything Little Birdie creates is designed to mix and match together.
For my layout today I created a fun bright watercolour effect background using Color Splash Sprays to use as the base of my page. I used the Boho Dreams collection. I love, love, love, the combo of hot pink and orange so was excited to finally use this collection and this photo of my baby sister and I at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary just a few years ago. (yes sadly that is me with the boy hair cut, my parents must not have liked me very much back then!}
While I have added layers and texture to this layout I have kept it quite flat so that I can fit more layouts into my album.
Anyway onto my tutorial.
Start off by spritzing the cello bag that your paper pack comes in with Hot Pink Color Splash then spritz some water and to lighten the colour.
Place a sheet of cardstock down and smooth over to spread the colour, dry off with heat tool or let dry naturally.
Grab a cello packaging bag from chipboard or flowers, spray onto the bag Lemon Zing Color Spray and then tap randomly onto base page.
The Hot Pink and Lemon Zing Color Splash Sprays create orange where they overlap to give you the three colours, remember for this technique you don’t want perfection your want a random watercolour effect.
Next, spray lightly all the chipboard elements with Hot Pink Colour Splash, you don’t want complete coverage.
Then add some Lemon Zing Color Spray to the chipboard and set aside to dry.
While your Chipboard and Base page dry, pull out your elements and journal cards pages and cut out the Journal card that says ‘Life is Magical’ and fussy cut some flower clusters. TIP: you don’t need to cut off elements you don’t want to use, like the unicorn head as you will tuck them under your layers.
Once everything is dry you can create your layers onto your base page. I have used foam tape on all my fussy cut pieces to add dimension without going too bulky. Adhere chipboard frame to the magical journal card I added Sisal Fibre under my layers to add texture along with handmade flowers.
A closer look at my clusters.
I finished off with some splatters using watered down white Gesso and a splatter brush.

Hello dear Little Birdie fans. It’s Tracey back to share a new project with you. I hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy during this challenging time.
Mother’s Day is just around the corner, so I created a sweet card to honor my mom featuring the gorgeous Shabby Chic Bouquet paper and flower collections. The card will fit into a standard 6×6″ shadowbox or frame, so I thought this sentiment about memories would work well as a display for everyday home decor and yet be lovely for a Mother’s Day card. Be sure to scroll down through the tips and techniques section for all the details on how I put it this card together.
Tips and Techniques
Select a background paper from the gorgeous ‘Shabby Chic Bouquet’ 6×6″ paper set. Brush with clear gesso and set aside to dry.
Stencil randomly over the background with shimmery Little Birdie Whipped Cream Sparkle Paste using the fabulous Flora Enchante Stencil and then set aside to dry.
Tip If you see that your paper has curled a bit after your wet mediums have had a chance to dry, here’s a tip on how to flatten it. Lightly spritz the back of the paper with water and place between a couple sheets of paper towels and then between two flat objects with a weight on top, then let sit for several hours or overnight until dry. It will be perfectly flat. I use two glass mats with something heavy on top, but you could use a stack of books or any flat object.
Fussy cut images from the Shabby Chic Bouquet 6×6″ paper set.
Tip I fussy cut all the images from the collection in the evenings while relaxing and watching a program on TV so that they are ready to go when I’m putting a project together.
Cut out a sentiment card from the 12×12″ paper Set. Distress the edges. I used the blade on my scissors to scrape and distress the edges.
Heat emboss the primed chipboard flower cluster with shabby pink on the flowers and shabby white embossing powder on the leaves.
Tip You can mix a tiny bit of fine gold glitter and gold embossing powder into plain white or pink embossing powder to create a shabby effect. Just mix up a small amount to use on your project. Or use metallic paint or even regular paint and add a bit of glitter while the paint is still wet. There are a number of ways to achieve a beautiful shabby effect on chipboard.
Select flowers to use on the card. I’ve used gorgeous flowers from the Shabby Chic collection: Tania; Queenie; and Micro Roses.
Next, use foam tape to adhere and pop up the “Happy Memories” card. Adhere the remaining elements, tucking some of the images under the card and some on top.
Use Matte Soft Gel Medium to adhere some bling below the cluster. I used pink prills and silver glass glitter.
Finally, adhere the decorated piece to a 6×6″ white card base.
