Shabby Chic Botanical Garden Card

Hello dear Little Birdie Fans! It’s Tracey back with a lovely new project to share with you.

As spring transforms into summer, the Botanical Garden Collection is simply perfect to create a beautiful shabby chic card. It was such a delight to work with these gorgeous papers! The teapot is fussy cut from the image page in the 12×12″ paper set and creates a stunning focal point among beautiful Little Birdie flowers in coordinating colors.

I’ve created lots of shabby chic texture with stenciling and primed chipboard using fabulous Little Birdie Crafts mixed media products.

Be sure to scroll down through the Tips and Techniques section to discover all the details on how to create a floral shabby chic card of your own in this step by step photo tutorial.

Tips and Techniques

Step 1

Select papers from the gorgeous Botanical Garden 6×6″ Paper pad. Trim the focal paper (Purple floral) to 5 5/8 by 5 5/8″. The woodgrain piece with a floral border will create a gorgeous frame around the card.

Step 2

Fussy cut the gorgeous floral teapot image from the Botanical Garden 12×12″ Paper Collection.

Select a couple images from the Botanical Garden Ephemera pack to use in the floral clusters. These glittered ephemera pieces are so gorgeous and easy to use!

Step 3

Step 4

Use Thin Cut Dies to cut gears from heavy weight (110lb) white cardstock. I just adore tucking gears into my projects and this set contains such beautiful gear designs.

Step 5

I’ll be using wet mediums for this card, so to reduce warping, brush clear gesso across the focal paper. Clear gesso forms a semi-barrier that helps keep the water off the paper and reduces warping.

Step 6

Spread White Mixed Media Paste across the Butterfly Inspire stencil to add this gorgeous design to the background.

Step 7

I spattered white droplets across the focal paper using drawing ink. You could also use thinned down gesso or white paint.

Step 8

Lightly dry brush across this background with white gesso to add a grungy and shabby feel as well as highlighting the texture.

Step 9

Select gorgeous Little Birdie Flowers that coordinate with the background paper and teapot image. The flowers I’ve used are listed in the supply list below.

Step 10

To soften the colors and add more of that shabby feel, dry brush the flowers lightly with white gesso.

Step 11

I’ve selected this sweet Whimsical Fence piece to add lovely texture to this card.

Step 12

Although this fabulous chipboard is already primed, I wanted it to be a little lighter, so sponged on some white gesso with a sponge dabber. This type of dabber makes quick work of adding gesso to chipboard.

Step 13

Lightly rub the fence with gold metallic wax, allowing some of the white to show through.

Step 14

Little Birdie mixed media products are fabulous for coloring metal embellishments like this sweet butterfly which started out with an antiqued silver finish. I colored some white gesso with a drop of Grape Trickle Concentrated Watercolor and lightly brushed the butterfly with it. I only wanted to color the raised areas so the dark antiquing still shows through. Once that was dry I used my finger to rub on a little berry glaze. It’s not pictured here, but I also rubbed on a bit of antique gold to vary the colors. Don’t you just adore the shabby finish this created on the butterfly?

Step 15

Adhere the chipboard fence first. Then add foam tape to the back of the teapot to lift it up and give dimension. I added a little silicone glue to the back side of the tape so that it would stick to the chipboard and mixed media background.

Then place and adhere the paper ephemera pieces.

Step 16

Arrange the gorgeous dimensional flowers and glue them in place.

Step 17

Add the the butterflies and gears.

Step 18

Use matte gel medium to adhere sweet Mute Orchid Microbeads around the edges of the flowers and teapot to add glimmering texture.

Here’s a photo of the teapot and floral flowers flowing gracefully across the card.

And one final shot of the entire card.

Toucan Surprise – Micro Album

Hey everyone! It’s Eva here and I’m back again with a very special summer themed Micro Album! Perfect for storing all those summer polaroids in a small cute package. So join me and let’s see how to make this Album!

I started off by selecting the pages for my album from Little Birdie’s Sunshine and Lemonade Paper Pack. Then, I die cut the pages to create these cute micro pages.

After that, I layered some more sheets to serve as my photo mattes for the pages.

Once done with that, make the hinge of the mini album. The hinges should be one inch apart to hold three spreads. Stick the hinge to the base of the album.

Cut 3 pieces of chipboard of the given size to make the base of the album. Then start embellishing the pages with the coordinating ephemera from the Sunshine and Lemonade paper pack and some pretty Little Birdie flowers.

Once done with embellishing the pages of the album attach them to the hinge and our album is ready! I hope you enjoyed making this album as much as I did and I’ll see you all next time.

With Lots of Love,
