Altered Mini Trinket Chest

Hello Little Birdie fans, hope you all are doing great and enjoying spring.

Today I am on the blog to show a step by step tutorial on how I altered an old box into a spring inspired mini trinket chest.

I had an old box in my stash which I had bought from a flea market during one of my trips to Singapore. I gave the box a thick coat of white gesso in and out.

I realized the box was chipping in many places so I added Mont Marte modelling paste with a knife to fill the gaps in the wood to make it more sturdy.

To cover the box from outside, I chose a decoupage paper Joyful Wings which had birds as motif. I cut the paper as per the measurement of the box into different size strips and adhered them with the help of Little Birdie Deco Magic glue – Matt.

The surface of the box was a little uneven so I decided to cover the top with pattern paper strips from my stash.

I roughly tore the pattern paper into strips with my hands and distressed the edges with Vintage photo distress ink. I added 2 layers of strips on both the sides of the top leaving the birds motif from my decoupage paper peeping out through the strips

I decorated the top of my box with Little Birdie flowers and leaves from Ocean Mist- Serenade, Agnes- Birds and Berries collection, a cute floral bouquet in pink from the celebrate Life collection, Buds from Roaslind -Song of the Sea, some laces from my stash, ephemera from Purple Passion collection and a chipboard bulb hanging on the edge.

I also added couple of mini wooden alphabets on both sides of my mini trunk. I added Patina Glaze metallic wax with my fingers to the metal lock on the box to go with the colour scheme . I coloured the inside of my chest with multi-surface archival paint Pink Swirl.

I hope you like my project and give it a try.

Till next time.

Ciao- Sumedha
