Hi creatives, it’s Susana here again! Today I am here to share my art journal. I’m new to using gesso and I really loved how my art journal turned out. You can see the summary video on my Instagram.
This is Chaitali and once again I am here with my new project, “Sweet Memories”.
I have created a camera shaped box to store an album; to fill with memories and photographs.
For this creation I used the very pretty cardstock, “Birds & Berries” from Little Birdie Crafts collection. Also, this collection has very beautiful ephemera pack and handmade flowers. I enjoyed fussy cutting the birds, the berries, the cute dollies and other elements.
I started by creating the album base and decorated it with cardstock, elements from the ephemera, flowers and laces. Then I adhered pretty papers from the cardstock to 4 flaps and attached them on each side alternatively. In the center of the album base I added triangular pockets for tags and labels.
Next, I created the camera box. For the camera lens I used an old Plastic box cap, and covered it with Cardstock n added a shaker to it for fun. I used Metal Microbeads, Beads, tiny hearts and a word quote, “Smile” from the Birds n Berries emphera pack to fill in the shaker. Then decorated the box with flowers, chipboards , punched butterflies.

Holla! Jinal Savla here…This month I have been experimenting with art journal and various techniques of mixed media… Let me take you through the process.
Step 1: Glued down 2 pages together to create a slightly thicker base and then primed it with Little Birdie’s white gesso.
Step 2: Sprinkled water randomly on the page. Used Vibrant shade chalk paints from the brand with combination of pink, orange, and yellow and blended them together.
Step 3: Used reverse stenciling effect. Before the paint dries I used a stencil to lift some paint off the page with a baby wipe.
Step 4: To add more texture, stamped certain designs/texture randomly to get the depth using LB – pigmented dye ink pad…also stamped ‘Dream’ on the right side of the page.
Step 5: Used Little Birdie’s Gold leaf flakes along with gliding glue to achieve the shimmer sentiment- ‘Shine’
Step 6: Die cut flowers using LB thin cut dies, watercoloured the inside, stuck it slightly keeping one over the other and doodled the outline with 0.5 marker.
Step 7: Added sentiments and a bird element along with sprinkled paint to complete the final look of the page.
Art journaling is super relaxing and I usually enjoy working on it when facing any kind of creative block. You can experiment with different techniques, background, textures and so forth… it gives you complete freedom to express! Hope you too give it a try and experience it for yourself.
