Hello Beautiful!

For today’s project, I have for you a lovely mermaid swimming under the sea.  She’s resting on some freeform watercolor rocks I created using the Watercolor set from Little Birdie Crafts.  I was hoping for some kind of rock or coral in the embellishment pack but I found that with the paints, I was able to accomplish what I needed in the exact colors that I preferred.

I used yellow ochre, brown, grey and black to get these tones on my watercolor paper.  I tried to blend my darker shadows to show some depth and feel like it came out good overall and they definitely look like the rocks I wanted them to be.

For my main image, I chose this sparkly mermaid with her gorgeous flowing hair and shimmery tail from the embellishment pack called Songs of the Sea.

For the background, I used a piece of paper from the Birds and Berries 6×6 paper pack.  On top of that, I used the Irregular Dots stencil and the Arctic Shimmer paste.  I adore this color of paste and you may have seen me use it a few times already.  It’s the most amazing color of blue/turquoise and I love how it picks up the color from the paper underneath!

You can see my layering of the mermaid with dimensional tape and how the paste gives even more texture.

My sentiment is from the stamp set Thinking Of You.  I really like the options in this set, making it very handy to have around.  I stamped it onto white cardstock using my Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink and then fussy cut it out.  I sponged on some Lucky Clover Distress Ink to bring back some of that nice green/blue tone.

Lastly, I added some clear Pearl Drops to make it look like bubbles floating up under the sea.  I’ve found the best way to make these in different sizes is to do them ahead of time on a craft sheet and let them dry.  That way you can try out where you’d like to place them before gluing them down.  Plus you don’t end up with oddly shaped dots and you can try different colors to see what looks best.

Here is my final card again.  I hope you liked my project!  Give those watercolors a try and don’t forget to check out the great collection of stencils that Little Birdie Crafts has to offer.

I hope you are inspired to try some watercoloring or to add some texture using stencils and paste 🙂
