Mixed Media Photo Frame

Hello Creative peeps, this is my last post for Little Birdie crafts as we come to an end of the Design Team term. For this month’s project I have created a functional mixed media photo frame and captioned it – Adventure awaits.

I had an old metal photo frame which I wanted to transform. It had a coat of homemade chalk paint which I scraped thoroughly with a sandpaper before starting with a coat of White Gesso. I let the green tint stay on the frame as is, in some places.

Once the Gesso was dry, I added a layer of crackle paste on the edges with the help of a palette knife. I let the Crackle Paste dry naturally.

I added texture with the help of Monte Marte modelling paste and stencil rectangle jumble. Once it dried, I added diluted chalk paints in Mango, Rose Blush, Sangria and let it run in crevices of textures I created. I realized my phone was dead and I missed taking pictures of this part of the process.

Once my textures and colours dried, I added a trim from my stash, a hot air balloon from primed chipboard “Up and Away“, ephemera from Shabby Chic Bouquet collection and flowers Amica – Celebrate Life , Elvina – Amor Mio, Agnes – Celebrate Life and some die cut leaves to make a composition. I added some script background stamp in places to give it a vintage look. I titled it : Adventure awaits”. I added a black and white postcard to the frame which I had bought during my trip to Vietnam.

I hope you will get inspired by this project and give your old frames a makeover.

Till next time around- Ciao

Upcycled Plank Wall Decor- ‘Life is Beautiful’

I had an old plank which I wanted to upcycle rather than throwing in the dump. I started by giving it a coat of white gesso and used Mont Marte modelling paste and different stencils from my stash to give a background to my plank.

I added colors in yellow and pink for my background and watered them down, for this I have used Archival Multi-surface paints Pink Swirl and Dandelion.

I created embellishments out of Mont Marte modelling paste since I didn’t have any clay in my stash. I added the modelling paste to my mould and let it dry completely. It only took couple of hours for it to dry since I stay in a tropical place. Depending on where you stay these modelling paste embellishments can dry up in few hours or few days.

I gave a coat of gesso first and colored the embellishments with chalk paint Misty Rose and watered it down. Then I used tinted metallic paint – Golden Glaze to highlight the textures and high points

I fussy cut some elements from the Little Birdie Shabby Chic Bouquet paper pack

I used some leaf die cuts and colored them with the help for water brush with alcohol ink Paprika and Citron Breeze and distress ink Picked Raspberry from my stash.

I made a composition of all my embellishments, leaves, Little Birdie fussy cut elements and flowers from Celebrate Life collection- Celestina, Amica, Agnes in pink and white Elira and Deborah. I added some micro beads with the help of soft gel and added a sentiment “Life is Beautiful” from a stamp set from Little Birdie sentiment stamps.

I hope you liked my upcycle project and will give it a try. Use code Sumedha5 for an additional 5% discount if you want to buy products used here.
