Wintry Christmas Star

Hello dear Little Birdie fans! It’s Tracey back with another wintry Christmas project to share with you featuring some of the amazing Christmas supplies in the Little Birdie Online Store. I wanted to show you a variety of ways to use these supplies, so today I have a home decor piece for you. I’ve altered a wooden star that I had in my stash.

I’ve created a photo tutorial to share all the details of how I put this wintry Christmas star together. Enjoy!

Photo Tutorial:

Step 1:

Paint a wood star with white gesso. I used two coats to get the coverage I wanted. If you don’t have a star on a stand like this, you could also use a simple star shape for a similar decor piece.

Step 2:

Use the design from this Christmas Bauble Stencil to stencil the star with crackle paste. I stenciled on one or two of the star points at a time and let the paste dry before moving on to stencil the next point(s). This paste dries quickly and took about 20 to 30 minutes to dry. This may vary depending on the temperature and humidity in your area.

The center will be filled with flowers and embellishments, so did not need to be stenciled.

If you don’t have crackle paste, you could use any kind of texture paste or mixed media paste for lovely texture.

Set aside until completely dry and the cracks have formed.

Step 3:

Paint the base in a metallic color of your choice. I wanted a brass color so mixed Golden Glaze with just a small drop of Tawny Glint to achieve this color. Allow this gold paint to dry before adding color to the star.

Lay the piece on it’s side so the star is laying flat on the table. I wanted just a wash of shimmery metallic paint to bring out the texture, so thinned down Blue Waltz Tinted Metallic Paint with some water and brushed it lightly across the star. I also spritzed on a little more water to help it move and flow nicely to settle into the cracks and crevices.

Set aside to dry.

Step 4:

Use a stiff bristle fan brush to lightly dry brush with white gesso.

Dry brushing is when you dip a dry brush (not wetted with water) into a small amount of gesso or paint, then brush most of it off on a scrap of paper, before lightly brushing across the piece. The goal is to highlight the texture rather than coating it with paint.

Step 5:

Arrange a silver Christmas Glitter Poinsettia, 3D Mini Glitter Snowflakes, Winter Joys Christmas Glitter Embellishments, along with white flowers from the Shabby Chic Collection and adhere them to the star. I also added rhinestones to the snowflakes and a differently shaped snowflake from my stash.

Step 6:

Adhere Prills and Iced Slate Metal Microbeads to fill in around the cluster with Matter Soft Gel Medium.

I stamped a sentiment to add a perfect bit of holiday cheer to this wintry star.

“Joy to the World” Christmas Card

Hello dear Little Birdie Crafts fans!! It’s Tracey here to share a special Christmas project with you. The Little Birdie online store is stocked with loads of amazing Christmas products for all of your holiday crafting. I have created three very different projects for you. Today I’m sharing this festive “Joy to the World” Christmas card featuring gorgeous Little Birdie handmade flowers, ribbon, and a variety of cardstock and glittered stickers. I’ve also used beautiful Little Birdie paper from the Shabby Chic Bouquet Collection as well as their fabulous mixed media supplies.

Here’s the photo tutorial I’ve created sharing all the details on how I put this card together. Enjoy!

Photo Tutorial:

Step 1:

Cut the focal paper from the beautiful Shabby Chic Bouquet Collection to 4.75 by 6.75″.

Cut cardstock in a coordinating color to 5 by 7″.

Step 2:

Brush the focal paper with Little Birdie Clear Gesso. This helps reduce warping when applying wet mediums like Mixed Media Paste.

Step 3:

Distress the edges of the paper with a distressing tool or the edge of your scissors blade for a lovely shabby feel.

You can see some of the snowy stenciling here as well as one of the fabulous Glitter Snowflakes.

Step 4:

Apply Little Birdie Mixed Media Paste through the blotchy stencil for a snowy effect and set aside to dry.

Step 5:

Once the background is dry, wrap the Tartan Ribbon around the center of the card and adhere.

The Joy to the World sentiment from the Jingle Bell Wishes Sticker set fit perfectly onto the ribbon!

Step 6:

Arrange the flowers and other elements to the card and adhere.

Step 7:

Adhere the focal paper to the cardstock, then onto a card base. It’s so easy to create a gorgeous Christmas card with the supplies found in the Little Birdie Online Store!

Pretty in Pink Christmas Card Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  It’s never too soon to get started making holiday cards.  Today, I used some really lovely Little Birdie mixed media supplies, patterned paper and handmade flowers to create this 6″ x 6″ Pretty in Pink Christmas Card.

While I love traditional red and green Christmas cards, sometimes it’s fun to change up the color palette.  This mixed media card has a lovely Victorian feel to it.  I think it’s pretty enough to use as home decor.

I machine stitched papers from the 12″ x 12″ Vintage Reflections Paper Pack along with pink papers from the 12″ x 12″ Aquarelle paper pack to create all these great distressed layers.   The main image is a digital printout that I had in my stash. The “Celebrate” Chipboard Sentiment is from the Birthday Wishes Primed Chipboard pack, but it works wonderfully well on this card.

A cascade of gorgeous Camila Moonlight Blossoms, Pink Rosemund Roses, Ferns, and Green Allium Foliage with some feathers from my stash is the crowning touch.  I dry brushed all the flowers and foliage with a mixture of Grainy Texture Paste and Fire Brick Tinted Metallic Paint to add some contrast and texture to the floral arrangement.  Fuchsia Hearty Melange along the distressed edges adds a touch of holiday sparkle.

I found these miniature pink Christmas ornaments in my stash and invited them to the party!  Aren’t they fun?

Victorian style is all about extravagance and abundance, soft colors and rich textures.  I think this card nails it!  What do you think?

Inside I’ve added a simple digital sentiment and created a slash pocket to hold a gift card.

A Fond Adieu…but not Goodbye

This is my last post as a member of the Little Birdie Design team. The past 6 months have flown by!  I’ve had a wonderful time being part of this incredible team, made new friends, and grown in my art.  It’s been a fabulous experience. I’d like to thank Harish and Rashmi for giving me the opportunity to share my art with you.  I hope to be back from time to time as a Guest Designer, and I will continue to use, share and promote the Little Birdie Crafts Brand on my own blog.

Wishing you all joy and creativity!
