Cherry Blossom Altered Box

Hello creative friends !
Eva here! Today we will be altering this easy and super cute box using my favourite collection Poppy’s & Roses. To start, you will need these alterable boxes. I have used the 4” size ones.

Start by priming the box using white Little Birdie gesso using a brush.

Since the Poppy’s and Roses pack comes with a coordinating decoupage sheet, I adhered them to the cover of my box using the Little Birdie Deco Magic glue and left them to dry naturally. I did the glossy finish for my cover.

Now comes my favourite part – Stencils. I used this geometric stencil and created textures on my box base using the Little Birdie 2 in 1 Mixed Media Paste. Gave it a red coat using acrylic paints but You can also go for the matte finished look using chalk paints.

Then to add more dimension and depth on the cover, I cut assorted sizes of rectangles using the Poppy’s and Roses paperpack and then started layering them.

To give the box more definition I used a lot of stone pellets, beads, flowers and other embellishments.

Here’s a close up of the different details of the box. Hope You enjoy creating these cute altered boxes.

Art Journal Pages

Holla! Jinal Savla here…This month I have been experimenting with art journal and various techniques of mixed media… Let me take you through the process.

Step 1: Glued down 2 pages together to create a slightly thicker base and then primed it with Little Birdie’s white gesso.

Step 2: Sprinkled water randomly on the page. Used Vibrant shade chalk paints from the brand with combination of pink, orange, and yellow and blended them together.

Step 3: Used reverse stenciling effect. Before the paint dries I used a stencil to lift some paint off the page with a baby wipe.

Step 4: To add more texture, stamped certain designs/texture randomly to get the depth using LB – pigmented dye ink pad…also stamped ‘Dream’ on the right side of the page.

Step 5: Used Little Birdie’s Gold leaf flakes along with gliding glue to achieve the shimmer sentiment- ‘Shine’

Step 6: Die cut flowers using LB thin cut dies, watercoloured the inside, stuck it slightly keeping one over the other and doodled the outline with 0.5 marker.

Step 7: Added sentiments and a bird element along with sprinkled paint to complete the final look of the page.

Art journaling is super relaxing and I usually enjoy working on it when facing any kind of creative block. You can experiment with different techniques, background, textures and so forth… it gives you complete freedom to express! Hope you too give it a try and experience it for yourself.

Mixed Media Butterfly with Video Tutorial

Hello dear Little Birdie Fans! It’s Tracey back to share a new project with you. This gorgeous butterfly features Little Birdie Flowers, the amazing Cogs and Wheels die set, and fabulous mixed media products. These warm summer days bring thoughts of delicate fluttering butterflies, and I just couldn’t resist the urge to create one of my own.

I hope you’ll join me to view this video tutorial and explore how create a gorgeous textured background, use stamps and dies to make sweet embellishments, develop a lovely patina finish on chipboard, color odds and ends leftovers to achieve a cohesive look, and add texture with microbeads and glitter.

Tips and Techniques

Gorgeous Little Birdie Flowers from the ‘Birds and Berries’ and ‘Fairy Sparkle’ collection are the focal point of this lovely butterfly. They’re dry brushed with white gesso for a shabby effect.

Here you can see the full cluster with all the layers and textures. I used up some odds and ends pieces left over from previous projects, to give them cohesiveness, they’re painted with Little Birdie Tinted Metallic Paints.

Die cutting patterned paper and stamped images is a great way to create gorgeous and inexpensive embellishments. They’re edges with inks and waxes for definition. I’ve used the Cogs and Wheels Die set for the gears.

I adore gears and couldn’t resist creating a patina finish on this gem from the Especially Cogs Primed Chipboard set.

The background is stamped and then colored with Bruso Powders. But the texture from Little Birdie Crackle paste used with the Butterfly Inspire Stencil is what gives this background so much amazing texture.

Little Birdie microbeads add such gorgeous shimmery texture. I’ve added in some glass glitter and tiny microbeads from my stash. The texture is adhered with matte gel medium.
