Masculine Airplane Card featuring The Classing Gentleman Collection

Hello dear Little Birdie fans!! It’s Tracey here to share this masculine card I created for my dad to celebrate his birthday. He served in the Air Force, so this vintage airplane image is absolutely perfect for him. Because he was a mechanic for those planes he flew in, he’ll appreciate the plane diagrams on the amazing background paper, so as much as I enjoy adding mixed media texture to my projects, I just couldn’t bear to cover up the fabulous design. I enhanced the color with some Distress Ink.

I used the Little Birdie Cogs and Wheels Dies to cut chipboard gears from thin chipboard, then used Little Birdie Tinted Metallic Paints to transform them into aged faux metal cogs with a patina finish.

I hope you’ll join me to view this video tutorial and explore how to add borders to image blocks and backgrounds, create a grungy typeset title, use metallic paints to transform diecut chipboard gears into faux metal beauties, and to create a patina finish, then add grungy texture with Metal Microbeads.

Enjoy!

Tips and Techiques:

I just adore this vintage airplane image. As soon as I received this paper collection, I knew this sheet would be used to create a card for my dad! It’s framed with black cardstock, and edged with a little grey ink. I include a hack in the video on how to get a perfectly even border around image blocks.

I used a type writer embossing folder from my stash to cut these letters from metallic cardstock and fussy cut them to create this title. Little Birdie Tinted Metallic Paints and black gesso are used to add a grungy patina finish.

The 3 bottom gears are cut with the Cogs and Wheels Thincut Die Set. For added dimension, I topped two of them with metal gears. I’ve used more of the metallic paints and gesso here to create a faux metal painta finish.

A clock from The Classic Gentleman image sheet was fussy cut to create a perfect frame for this compass coin topped with a metal gear. The metal pieces have more of the metallic paints brushed over them give them a grungy aged look.

Texture is added using Ebony Black Metal Microbeads pared with prills and tiny bronze microbeads from my stash using Acrylic Matte Gel Medium. The outer edge of the card is also framed with black cardstock.

There was just a hint of patina in the top corner of this paper, and of course I wanted more of it. So I randomly layered Distress Inks across the card to pick up this color and add visual interest, still allow the amazing background design to show. I made sure to allow some of the original sepia color to show through. I wanted the airplane block to be a focal point, so did not add patina here for contrast.

Summer is just around the corner and those warm (hot) temperatures have arrived along with beautiful vibrant flowers coming into full bloom which inspired me to pull out the gorgeous Boho Dreams collection filled with amazing yellows, corals, and pinks!!

Slimline cards are trending these days, so I thought I’d use this popular format to create this summery card filled with gorgeous Little Birdie flowers, chipboard, and mixed media products.

I hope you’ll join me to view this video tutorial and explore how to use paints and waxes to beautifully color resin, add a lovely finish to chipboard with embossing enamel, arrange gorgeous flowers and embellishments to fill a slimline card while creating dimension, and add sparking texture to flowers.

Tips and Techniques

This lovely resin butterfly is painted with Little Birdie’s new Multisurface paints paired with Tinted metallic paint and Metallic wax.
This gorgeous cluster includes these Boho Vibes flowers: Wendy; Francisca; Marisa; and Elira; along with Celebrate Life: Kimberly and Marisa.
Shimmery highlights are added to the flowers with Golden Glaze Tinted Metallic Paint, and sprinkled with Gala Pink and Summer Gold Metal Microbeads along with prills and glitter shards from my stash. Soft Acrylic Matte Gel Medium is used to adhere them in place.
This doily sentiment is fussy cut from the Boho Vibes 6×6″ paper set. A portion of a Little Birdie Primed Chipboard Dreamcatchatcher along with this fabulous Especially Cogs gear are finished with embossing enamel.
This chipboard feather is also heat embossed. The layered and distressed paper is from the Boho Dreams collection.

New Beginning – Mixed Media Canvas

Hello dear Little Birdie Crafts fans! It’s Tracey here with a new project to inspire you. I have a dear friend who’s going through a rough time recently, and I created this encouraging canvas for her. This sweet sentiment from the ‘Birds and Berries’ ephemera pack is just perfect because everyday is truly a new beginning. I just adore how easy it is to mix and match gorgeous Little Birdie flowers and embellishments to create such a beautiful arrangement.

I’ve used a variety of mixed media techniques to create the canvas background and to color and add texture to chipboard and resin embellishments. I hope you’ll enjoy learning with me as you view this video with lots of details and voice instructions.

Tips and Techniques:

Little Birdie Grainy Texture Paste is applied through the beautiful Fleur-di-lis Trellis Stencil and spritzed with Black Current and Grape Crush Color Splash. Once dry, I added a little script stamping with permanent ink and color is added to the edges.

This photos is at an angle so you can see all the dimension created by layering chipboard, resin, ephemera, and flowers. Metal Microbeads and tiny seed beads are adhered to the flowers and background with Soft Gel Medium to add texture.

A close-up showing the beautiful mix of Little Birdie Flowers including Birds and Berries: Celestina and Nancy; Celebrate Life Flowers, Wendy; Fairy Sparkle Flowers: Wendy and Elvina; Bouquet Mulberry Flowers; and Pearl Pink Micro Jewlled Florettes.

This Primed Chipboard Clock with Design and resin clock are highlighted with golden Glaze Paint.

Molded pieces are colored with Chalk Paint, Metallic Wax, and Gesso for a grungy effect.

This gorgeous Primed Chipboard Swirl Corner and Brick with Window pictured in the previous photo are colored with Color Splash and gesso.

I just adore the glittery shimmer on these Birds and Berries Ephemera pieces!
